Immaculate Conception

It is tempting to think of the camera
as objectivity in a box
exposing real things to light

with no body in particular
behind the lens
prodding, guiding, clicking
turning, moving, framing

miraculously conceived images
without echo
of some active body within
a very particular somewhere.

  1. I considered titling this, "Just the Fax, Ma'am", as I've been thinking lately about what we take to be "objective" scans or representations of something real.

What counts as objectivity-in-a-box where you live?

  2. I'm look first to the word/s "no body" and then also "some active body within", the space between the photographer and the lens. I've got a new post up that's sort of got this in mind and am curious what you think... I think that you could have gone with "Just the Fax, Ma'am" but the current title also has lots of punch!

    Bye for now

  3. The only objectivity in a box in Detroit is coming from them in the coffin.

  4. I'll take a look at your new post, Jon. Perhaps it will inspire me to write the second half of the essay presentation I have been percolating. That "space between" is elusive, eh?

walking man, there's a whole background of particular somewheres in that line, isn't there?

  7. The camera (judging by recent views of myself) portrays an alternative truth.
